Frequently asked questions
Straight answers, always current โ these reflect exactly how the marketplace is configured right now.
For buyers
Buying a domain
How do I buy a domain?
Open the domain's page and pick what suits you: Buy now pays the full price, Make an offer starts a private conversation with the seller, and on many domains Lease to own splits the price into monthly payments. Every step after that is tracked for you.
Is the price negotiable?
Usually, yes โ send an offer and the seller responds in your private thread. An offer you send stays open for 7 days.
How does the transfer work after I pay?
The domain is released to you โ usually a push at the current registrar or an authorization code you use to move it to your registrar of choice. Most transfers complete within a few days, and your thread shows each step as it happens.
Is it safe to pay here?
Payments run on established rails, the platform never touches your money directly, and every deal is recorded step by step. If anything ever feels off, support is one click away and a real person reads every ticket.
Lease to own
How does lease to own work?
Slide to the number of months that fits your budget (2โ60, up to the seller's term), pay 10% down, and the rest splits into equal monthly payments. Example at today's settings: a $10,000 domain over 24 months is $1,000 down, then about $375/month.
Can I use the domain during the lease?
Yes โ the domain sits safely in the Domaina holding account and is yours to use from day one. Full ownership transfers to you with the final payment.
Can I pay it off early?
Anytime, with no fees โ the remaining balance completes the purchase and the transfer starts immediately.
What if I miss a payment?
Life happens โ you'll get a friendly reminder and time to catch up. If a lease ends without completing, payments made are not refunded and the domain returns to the seller, so tell us early if you're struggling and we'll work something out.
Your account and conversations
How do I get back to my conversations?
Every email we send you links straight to your private thread. You can also request a sign-in link with just your email โ no password needed.
How do I get help?
Open a ticket at /support โ payments, transfers, technical hiccups, anything. You'll get an instant first answer, an email link to your ticket, and updates the moment anything changes.
For sellers
Listing domains
How do I list domains?
Add one at a time, paste up to 1,000 in bulk (a price after a comma lists it with Buy now; a bare name lists as Make offer), or import a CSV. New sellers complete a short trusted-platform onboarding first โ address, country and phone.
Why is one of my domains 'held for review'?
Our safety screen holds names that match protected terms (famous trademarks and worse) for a human look before they can go public. Nothing is deleted; an admin reviews and releases legitimate names.
What does ownership verification do?
Adding your unique verification nameserver (ns-verify-46aee5a5b948.domaina.com) as an extra nameserver at a domain's registrar proves you control it โ without changing where the domain points.
Fees and payouts
What does selling cost?
The platform commission is 9% per completed transaction, captured at the rate in force when the sale closes. Listing is free.
How do I get paid?
Set your payout method and details once on your Profile page (PayPal, bank transfer, Wise or crypto). Earnings pay out every cycle. Your details are stored masked and never shown to buyers.
Lease to own (for sellers)
How do lease terms work?
Lease to own is on by default for every priced domain: 10% down and up to 24 months at today's defaults. You can change the duration and down payment per domain, or switch it off โ per domain or everywhere โ in Settings.
Who holds the domain during a lease?
The Domaina holding account โ custody before billing, so neither side can be left hanging. The platform charges a 5% service fee per installment; you're paid as installments clear. If a buyer defaults, the domain comes back to you and you keep what was paid.
Buyers and privacy
Why can't I see a buyer's name or email?
Buyer identities are protected by the platform (you'll see a stable pseudonym like Buyer #4821). It keeps every deal on-platform and safe for both sides โ all negotiation happens right in your lead threads.
Which notifications will I get?
Exactly the ones you choose โ Settings has a per-event matrix (new leads, replies, payments, transfers, leases, support, sales). Buyer-facing transactional emails always send.
